The world was once blessed with a long period of Islamic civilization, a period when a single Islamic government united Muslim people from many lands under the laws revealed to the final Messenger and those who follow him. This final message to mankind started with knowledge and continued to emphasize the importance of knowledge as a foundation for all individual and societal activity. The first five ayaat revealed were as follows “Iqra [read, recite, study] in the Name of your Lord Who created, Created man from a clot, Iqra for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One, Who has taught by the pen, Taught man what he knew not”(al A’laq 96:1-5) Qataadah [d.118 h.] said concerning the ayah “…taught by the pen”, “The pen is a great blessing from Allah. If it were not for it, the religion would not be established and the worldly life would not be sound” (QURTUBI ‘al Jaami’ li Ahkaam al Qura’n’) Imaam al Qurtubi [d.671 h.] said “He (swt) points to His perfect Nobility by the fact that He taught humans that which they did not know. He took them from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. He (swt) alludes to the virtue of the knowledge of writing due to the great benefits that are not achieved except through it.” (QURTUBI ‘al Jaami’ li Ahkaam al Quran’) Knowledge is most important because it is a foundation for thoughts, concepts, judgements and beliefs which in turn lead directly to actions for the individual and the society. A government will base its systems of life and policies upon its knowledge and beliefs, if the government wants to protect its internal affairs then it will propagate beliefs and concepts that are supportive of its own position by means of education, media, law and other means. If a government seeks to influence external peoples then it will propagate its beliefs and concepts to other nations by a variety of means, educational establishments being from among the most effective and long lasting means.
Below is a brief summary covering some of the reasons why it is prohibited to send Muslim children to be educated from a kufr viewpoint under the direction of the kuffaar and more significantly, the taaghoot. For a fuller explanation with more evidence, please refer to the larger document on this to be published soon insha’allah.
Islam is a Comprehensive and Unique System which possesses a Unique Education System
Islam is a comprehensive and unique way of life, providing guidance and principles necessary for the sound running of the world’s affairs, all of that in accordance with the Islamic revealed aim of life. This by necessity includes its own education system. “Verily, the only religion with Allah is submission” (aali I’mraan 3:20) and “Verily this Quran guides unto that which is the Straightest (aqwaamu)” (al Israa 17:9) and “Whoever desires a deen other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him and in the hereafter he will be one of the losers.” (aali I’mraan 3:85) and “Verily, We have sent down to you the Book as a clarification for all matters, a guidance, a blessing and good news for Muslims.” (an Nahl 16:89) Islam thus includes its own education system which reflects the Islamic viewpoint about life and its revealed aim and objectives. This fundamentally conflicts with the education systems operating in kufr States whether they be nationalistic, democratic, monarchical, socialist etc.
For any government, specific education policy and education structural arrangements will change in form according to circumstances, educational and political level of the people, specific needs and available resources. However, apart from these naturally variable factors, Islam has its own education system with its own foundations, principles and objectives which serve the Islamic objectives for society as a whole. People living in a kufr society have been poisoned mentally and spiritually by the erroneous systems of government, false viewpoints and beliefs that are dominant. Therefore, Allah (swt) sent prophets culminating with the final Prophet (saw) to purify the peoples beliefs, concepts and actions from the kufr they were upon, Allah (swt) says “Mankind were one ummah and Allah sent prophets with glad tidings and warnings and with them He sent the Book in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom it was given differed concerning it after clear proofs had come unto them through hatred, one to another. Then Allah by His permission guided those who believed to the truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom He Wills to a straight path.” (al Baqarah 2:213) and “And We send not the Messengers but as givers of glad tidings and as warners. So whosoever believes and does righteous actions, upon such shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (al Ana’m 6:48) This purification is achieved by refuting and prohibiting the falsehood and munkar and replacing it with the Islamic beliefs, concepts and laws derived from the Qura’n and Sunnah. Allah (swt) says, “Our Lord! And raise up in their midst a Messenger from among them who shall recite unto them Your Ayaat, and shall instruct them in the Scripture and in Hikmah [wisdom] and shall purify [yuzakkeehim] them. Lo! You, only You, are Al A’zeez Al Hakeem.” (al Baqarah 2:129) and “Even as We have sent unto you a Messenger from among you, who recites unto you Our Ayaat and purifies you, and teaches you the Scripture and the hikmah, and teaches you that which you knew not.'” (al Baqarah 2:151) and “Allah verily has shown grace to the believers by sending unto them a Messenger of their own who recites unto them His revelations, and purifies them, and teaches them the Scripture and the Hikmah, although before (he came to them ) they were in clear misguidance.” (aali I’mraan 3:164) and “He it is Who hath sent among the unlettered ones a messenger of their own, to recite unto them His revelations and to purify them, and to teach them the Scripture and the Hikmah, though before they were indeed in clear misguidance” (al Jumua’h 62:2) and “Those who follow the Messenger, the illiterate Prophet whom they find written with them in the Tawrah and the Injeel he commands them the ma’roof and forbids from them the munkar, he makes halaal for them the tayyibaat and makes haraam the khabaai’th, he releases them from their heavy burdens and from the fetters that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honour him, help him and follow the light which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful.” (al A’raaf 7:157)
However, if a people would return to the previous principles and false education and were to neglect the Islamic ta’leem [education] and tazkeeyah [purification] and no longer take the Qura’n as their reference point and furqaan [criterion] for all decision making, then in a short period they would decline and eventually revert back to kufr. This is made clear by the following ayaat, Allah (swt) says “That is so because Allah will never change a blessing he has bestowed upon a people until they change what is within their ownselves. And verily Allah is Sami’un A’leem.” (al Anfaal 8:53) and “…Verily, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves. But when Allah Wills a people’s punishment, there can be no turning back of it and they will find besides Him no protector.” (ar Ra’d 13:11) and “How many a town that were wrongdoers, have We destroyed and raised up after them another people?” (al Anbiyaa’ 21:11)
The Qura’n, Sunnah, History and Contemporary Society Proves the Environment Affects the Beliefs, Behaviour and Personality
The environment around a person, whether it be his parents, school or society as a whole affects them. This is clear because man enters the world ignorant with no knowledge and his environment will then teach him his objectives and reference point, this will mold his beliefs, thinking, emotions, personality and behaviour. This is confirmed by ration and by experience and more importantly by the revelation. There are many daleels on this including the following:-
- Allah (swt) says, “And the day when the zaalim will bite at his hands, he will say, ‘Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the messenger. Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so and so as a close friend [khaleel]”! He indeed led me astray from this Dhikr after it had come to me. And Shaytaan is to man ever a deserter in his hour of need.’ (al Furqaan 25:27-29)
- Allah (swt) says, “O you who believe! Do not take into your intimacy those outside your ranks. They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire for you to suffer. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths and what their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the signs if you have wisdom….” (aali I’mraan 3:118)
-
- Abu Hurayrah reports that Nabi (saw) said, “A man is upon the deen of his khaleel [close friend] so look to whom you have befriended” (ABU DAWOOD, TIRMIDHI who graded it ‘hasan saheeh’)
-
- Abu Moosa reported that Nabi (saw) said “The parable of the righteous gathering and the evil gathering is like the dealer of musk and the blacksmith’s furnace. You will not leave the dealer of musk without buying some of it or getting some of its smell, while the furnace will either burn your house or clothes or give you a bad smell.” (BUKHAARI Kitaab al Buyoo’ Eng/Arabic [vol.3 no.314] Kitaab at Tibb vol.7 no.442], MUSLIM Kitaab al Birr was Silat wal Adaab’ [no.6361]) Ibn Hajr al A’sqalaani [d.852 h.] said regarding this hadeeth ‘in this hadeeth is the prohibition of gatherings which will harm the participants in their deen and worldly life, and it encourages gatherings in which the participants will derive benefit’ (A’SQALAANI ‘Fathul Baari’ [4/324]) Imaam an Nawawi [d.676 h.] said regarding this hadeeth ‘It shows the virtue of the gatherings of the righteous, the good people, people of valor, honour, good character, piety, knowledge and manners and the prohibition of gatherings of the evil people, people of innovations, and whoever slanders people or steeps himself in sin and falsehood and other types of blameworthy behaviour’ (NAWAWI’ ‘Sharh Muslim’ [16/178])
-
- It is reported that Nabi (saw) said “Solitude is better than an evil gathering and a good gathering is better than solitude” (BAYHAQI)
The Continuous Objectives of the Kufr Education System to Call Towards Kufr
The kufr education system is designed to call people towards kufr, its own beliefs and views. The education system is designed to influence people so that they serve the system of kufr and abandon opposing views. The Qura’n is explicit in stating the objectives of the kuffaar in wanting to draw the Muslims away from Islam towards kufr. The Qura’n addressed this in a general way which includes means such as education, indeed, this is one of the most effective methods of ensuring mass misguidance. Explicit and specific daleel is needed to exclude these general daleels from education. Allah (swt) says :-
- “Many among the people of the Book wish to turn you back from your faith toward kufr due to their envy even after the truth has been known to them but forgive and excuse them until Allah brings about His command. Indeed Allah has power over everything” (al Baqarah 2:109)
- “The Jews and Christians will not be pleased with you unless you follow their way. Say: ‘Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the true guidance.’ And if, after this knowledge has come to you, you follow their desires, then you will find no helper or protector against Allah” (al Baqarah 2:120)
- “O you who believe! If you follow a party of the People of the Book, they will return you to kufr after you have believed” (aali I’mraan 3:100)
- “O you who believe!
- “And those who disbelieve are awliyaa of one another, unless you do so there will be calamities on the earth and great corruption.” (al Anfaal 8:73)
- “O ye who believe! If ye obey the Unbelievers, they will drive you back on your heels, and ye will turn back (from Faith) to your own loss.” (aali I’mraan 3:149)
- “So obey not the deniers, they wish that you should compromise with them so they would compromise with you.” (al Qalam 68:9)
- “And thus We have set up in every town great ones of its wicked people to plot [liyamkuroo] therein. But they plot [yamkuroona] not except against their ownselves and they perceive it not.” (al Ana’m 6:123)
- “Verily those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the Path of Allah, and so will they continue to spend it, but in the end it will become a regret [hasrah] for them. Then they will be overcome [yughlaboon].” (al Anfaal 8:36)
- “Verily najwaa are only from shaytaan in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he can not harm them in the least, except as Allah permits. And in Allah let the believers put their trust.” (al Mujaadilah 58:10)
- “They intend to put out the light of Allah with their mouths. But Allah will bring his Light to perfection even if the disbelievers hate it.” (as Saff 61:8)
- “And they will never stop fighting you until they turn you back from your deen if they can. And whoever of you turns back from his deen and dies as a disbeliever, then his deeds will be lost in this life and the hereafter and they will be dwellers of the Fire. They will abide therein forever.” (al Baqarah 2:217)
The Believer Must Turn Away from Falsehood and not Expose his children to it
The fundamental struggle in human history is a struggle between those who follow the truth revealed by Allah and those who follow falsehood of their own making, Allah (swt) says “Nay, We hurl the Truth and against the falsehood so it destroys it and behold it vanishes. And woe to you for that which you ascribe.” (al Anbiyaa’ 21:18) Thus, the Islamic system has a foundation of truth whereas the various kufr civilizations and systems have a foundation of falsehood. Allah (swt) declared that the munaafiqeen are liars and that lying is from their attributes and signs, “And Allah does Witness that verily the munaafiqeen are liars.” (al Munaafiqoon 63:1) and “In their hearts is a disease and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies [yakdhiboon].” (al Baqarah 2:10) and Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “The signs of a munaafiq are three – when he talks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it and when he is trusted he is disloyal.” (BUKHAARI, MUSLIM) In Islam it is haraam to lie and by its generality that ruling includes lying to your own children or sending someone else to lie to them. Allah (swt) says “Woe to every sinful liar [afaakin atheem].” (al Jathiyah 45:7) and from the greatest forms of kufr is to attribute falsehood to Allah, a matter which is rife in the kufr educational establishment, Allah (swt) says “And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or denies the truth when it comes to him? Is there not a dwelling in Hell for disbelievers?” (al A’nkaboot 29:68) In fact the wahi made clear that falsehood leads to all branches of evil and harm, Ibn Masoo’d (r) reports that Nabi (saw) said “…Falsehood leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to the Fire and a man speaks falsehood and makes falsehood his object until he is written as a great liar.” (BUKHAARI, MUSLIM) and Ibn U’mar reports that Nabi (saw) said “When a man lies the angels move away from him the distance of a mile.” (TIRMIDHI) and “If a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object he will have a black mark put on his heart, and then his heart will become completely blackened and he will be recorded before Allah (swt) as one of the liars.” (MAALIK) and Safwaan ibn Sulaim reported that Rasool Allah (saw) was asked whether a believer could be a coward to which he replied “Yes.” He (saw) was then asked whether a believer could be a miser and he replied “Yes.” He (saw) was then asked whether a believer could be a liar and he (saw) replied “No.” (MAALIK) There are many daleels that explicitly command the Muslims to avoid falsehood and not to entrust one’s affairs to the people of falsehood e.g.:-
- “Avoid a person who has turned away from our remembrance and does not desire anything beyond the life of this world, and this is the extent of his knowledge. Your Sustainer knows best who has gone astray from His path and He knows best who is guided.” (an Najm 53:29-30)
- “Successful indeed are the believers, those who have khushoo’ in their prayers and those who stay away from laghw [any falsehood in any form]” (al Mu’minoon 23:1-3)
- “And those who do not witness falsehood and when they pass by evil, they move on with dignity” (al Furqaan 25:72)
- “And leave alone those who take their deen as a play and pastime and are deceived by the life of this world…” (al Ana’m 6:70) Ibn Katheer [d. 774 h.] says “The ayah commands to leave such people, ignore them and give them respite, for soon, they will taste a tremendous torment…” (IBN KATHEER ‘Tafseerul Quran al A’zeem’)
- “When you see those who rush to (mock) Our ayaat stay away from them until they turn to another subject. And if Shaytaan causes you to forget, then after remembering do not sit in the company of the people who do wrong.” (al Ana’m 6:68) Ibn Abi Najeeh reported that Mujaahid [d.103 h.] said “They try to mock them. Muhammad (saw) was forbidden from sitting with them unless they desist. So when such things are said, then leave…” (TABARI ‘Jaami al Bayaan’, IBN ABI SHAYBAH, IBN BATTAH ‘al Ibaanah’) Mua’mmar reported that Qataadah [d.118 h.] said “Allah forbade him to sit with those who mock the ayaat of Allah, lying about them, and if you forget, then do not sit with the wrongdoing people after remembering.” (IBN BATTAH ‘al Ibaanah’) Ibn Katheer says “This command includes every member of this ummah. No one is to sit with those who deny and distort the ayaat of Allah and explain them incorrectly…” (IBN KATHEER ‘Tafseerul Quran al A’zeem’) Qadi Abu Bakr al Jassaass [d.370 h.] says “This ayah says that Muslims should abstain from every gathering where things are being said against Allah ta A’la, His Rasool (saw) and the sharia’h of Islam and where it is not within one’s power and control to stop or have it stopped, or, at the least, be able to say what is true and right. However, participating in such a gathering with the intention to reform and to carry the message of truth to them does not matter.” (JASSAASS ‘Ahkaam al Quran) He also mentions that Hasan al Basri [d.110 h.] states that even if they stop engaging in the wrongful speech then you can still not sit in their company because they are wrongdoers as proven by their previous speech and the ayah says “…after remembering do not sit in the company of those who do wrong” thus the hukm is not only to avoid the speech but those who convey it. (JASSAASS ‘Ahkaam al Quran’)
- “And it has been revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the Ayaat of Allah being denied and mocked, then do not sit with them until they turn to a different subject, otherwise you will be like them. Surely Allah will gather all of the Hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell” (an Nisaa 4:140) Imaam al A’loosi [d.1270 h.] mentions that the ayah indicates the kufr of the one who witnesses kufr and does not make hijrah from it nor forbid it and he reported the statement of Khawhirzadih who said “To have no objections to the kufr of a kaafir is itself a type of kufr.” (A’LOOSI ‘Rooh al Ma’aani’) This supported by the hadeeth of Al U’rs bin A’mirat al Kindi who reported Nabi (saw) as saying “When sin is done in the earth, he who sees it and disapproves of it will be taken as one not present but he who is not present and approves of it be like him who sees.” (ABU DAWOOD [no.3787]) and U’baydullah in Jareer reports from his father that Nabi (saw) “There is no people among whom sins are committed and they have more power and strength than them and do not make change except that Allah gives them all punishment.” (IBN MAAJAH) and Jaabir bin A’bdullah reports Nabi (saw) “If any man is among people in whose midst he does acts of disobedience and though they are able to make him change they do not change, Allah will smite them with His punishment before they die.” (ABU DAWOOD)
- Imaam Abu Hayyaan [d.745 h.] said “These ayaat tell us that what is sinful to say verbally remains equally sinful when heard through the ears voluntarily…” (ABU HAYYAAN ‘al Bahr al Muheet’) Qadi Abu Bakr al Jassaass also mentions that the Muslim witnessing munkar must forbid and if not capable of that, then leave the company of those engaging in it, as this shows the lowest degree of displeasure. (JASSAASS ‘Ahkaam al Quran’) Ibn Katheer said “The ayah means, if you still commit this prohibition after being aware of its prohibition, sitting with them where the ayaat of Allah are rejected, mocked at and denied, and you sanction such conduct, then you have participated with them in what they are doing…” (IBN KATHEER ‘Tafseer al Quran al A’zeem’) Muqaatil bin Hayyaan [d.2??h.] said this ayah abrogates the ayah in al Ana’m which says “Those who have taqwa of Allah are not accountable in any case but their duty is to remind them that they may have taqwa” (al Anam 6:69) which follows the ayah of similar subject matter, “And when you see those who engage in false conversation about Our ayaat by mocking them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaytaan causes you to forget, then after remembering, do not sit in the company of those who do wrong.” (al Ana’m 6:68) (IBN KATHEER ‘Tafseer al Quran al A’zeem’)
This ayah is a proof of the kufr whose who sit with those who deny and mock the revelation, as in this case the true believer will either make hijrah from the situation or he will forbid the munkar or implement what the sharia’h requires in such a situation if he has the authority and power to do so. Despite the ayah describing this action as nifaaq and kufr and condemning it to Hell, the kufr was also proved by it being connected to the previous two ayaat, “Give to the munaafiqeen the news that there is for them a painful torment. Those who take the disbelievers for friends instead of believers, do they seek I’zzah with them? Verily, then to Allah belongs all I’zzah.” (an Nisaa’ 4:138-139) So sitting with them while they deny the truth and mock it, is a proof of one’s alliance and agreement with them or an accepting of their authority.
- “…and do not follow the desires of those who have no knowledge.” (al Jaatheeyah 45:18) Muslims must not follow principles and concepts which are based on falsehood and conjecture, the education system is laden with falsehood and conjecture.
- “And incline not towards those who do wrong lest the Fire should catch you” (Hood 11:113)
- “…and follow not the path of those who know not.” (al Baqarah 2:169)
- Abu Hurayrah and Abu Masoo’d reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “A man from whom counsel [mustashaaru] is sort should be faithful [mu’taman].” (IBN MAAJAH)
- I’mraan bin Husayn reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “Whoever hears of (the arrival) the Dajjaal, let him stay away from him. For by Allah, surely a man who considers himself a believer will go to him and become his follower due to the doubts that he instills in him.” (AHMAD, ABU DAWOOD, AL HAAKIM)
- Jaabir reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “Do not ask the people of the Book about anything. They will not guide you, in fact, they are themselves misguided. If you listen to them, you might end up accepting some falsehood or denying some truth. By Allah if Moosa had been alive among you, he would not be permitted anything except to follow me.” (ABU YA’LA)
Parents Have the Primary Responsibility to Educate their Children Islamically and Protect them from Kufr and Misguidance
It is clear from many ayaat and ahadeeth that educating children, protecting them from harmful influences and providing them with what they need to be successful in both worlds, according to the Divine view of success is a duty on the parents. And let us remind ourselves of our Divinely chosen aim, Allah (swt) says “I have not created the jinn and mankind except for My worship.” (adh Dhaariyaat 51:56) and the meaning of success Allah (swt) says “…and whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.” (aali I’mraan 3:185):-
1) Allah (swt) says, “O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones” (at Tahreem 66:6)
- A’li ibn Abi Talha reported that Ibn A’bbaas said concerning this ayah, “Work in the obedience of Allah, avoid disobedience of Allah and order your families to remember Allah, then Allah will save you from the Fire.” (‘Jami’ al Bayaan’ TABARI, ‘Tafseer al Quran al A’zeem’ IBN KATHEER)
- A’li said concerning this ayah “Teach and discipline them.” (QAZWEENI ‘Mukhtasar Shu’bul Imaan’)
- Mujaahid [d.103 h.] said concerning the ayah “Have taqwa of Allah and command your family to have taqwa of Him.” (‘Jami’ al Bayaan’ TABARI, ‘Tafseer al Quran al A’zeem’ IBN KATHEER)
- Imaam al Qazweeni [d.699 h.] narrated that Hasan al Basri [d.110 h.] said concerning this ayah “In other words, command them to obey Allah and teach them goodness.” (QAZWEENI ‘Mukhtasar Shu’bul Imaan’)
- Qataadah [d.118 h.] said concerning this ayah “He commands obedience to Allah, to not disobey Allah, he orders his family to obey His commands and help them to act upon His commands. When one sees disobedience, he stops them and forbids them from doing it.” (‘Jami’ al Bayaan’ TABARI, ‘Tafseer al Quran al A’zeem’ IBN KATHEER)
- Imaam A’loosi relates that when this ayah was revealed U’mar ibn al Khattab asked ‘O rasool Allah, we understand how to save ourselves from Hell, that is we guard ourselves against sins and carry out the Divine orders, but how do we guard our families from hell?’ Rasool Allah (saw) replied “Instruct them to refrain from actions Allah has prohibited and ask them to carry out actions Allah has commanded. This will rescue them from the Hellfire.” (A’LOOSI ‘Rooh al Ma’aani’)
2) The Quran also gives us the example of Luqmaan who taught his son many essential issues of belief and behaviour, “Behold, Luqmaan said to his son by way of instruction: ‘O my son! Do not make shirk with Allah. Verily shirk is a great zulm.’ And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in two years is his weaning. Show gratitude to Me and to your parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal. But if they strive to make you associate with Me things of which you have no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice, and follow the way of those who turn to me, in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that you did. (Luqmaan said) ‘O my son! If there be (but) the weight of a mustard-seed and it were (hidden) in a rock, or (anywhere) in the heavens or on earth, Allah will bring it forth: for Allah understands the finest mysteries, (and) is well-acquainted (with them). O my son! Establish the prayer, command the ma’roof and forbid from the munkar and bear with patient constancy whatever befalls you, for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs. And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loves not any arrogant boaster. And be moderate in thy pace, and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the ass.’" (Luqmaan 31:13-19)
3) Allah (swt) says, “And command your family with the prayer and to be constant in them. We do not ask you for provision We provide for you and the good end is for those of taqwa.” (Ta Ha 20:132)
4) The responsibility of the parents in rearing and educating their children is indicated by the ayah, “My Lord bestow your mercy on them as they did bring me up when I was small” (al Israa 17:24)
5) This is also indicated by the ayah, “And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds.” (at Toor 52:21)
6) A'bdullah ibn U'mar reported that Nabi (saw) said "Beware, everyone of you is a guardian [raai’n] and everyone of you is masoo’l [responsible/accountable] for his guardianship. So the Imaam over his people [naas] is a guardian and he is accountable for his guardianship and the man is a guardian over the people of his household [ahli baytihi] and he is accountable for his guardianship and the lady is a guardian over the people of the household [ahli baytihi] of her husband and his children and she is accountable for them and a slave [a'bd] of a man is guardian over the wealth of his master [sayyidihi] and he is accountable for it. Beware, because everyone of you is a guardian and everyone of you is accountable for his guardianship." (BUKHAARI kitaabul Ahkaam [vol.9 no.252] also several different versions [kitaabul Juma'h [vol.2 no.18], [vol.3 no.592, 730, 733] kitaabul Wasayyah [vol.4 no.14] kitaabun Nikah [vol.7 no.116, 128] similar narrated by MUSLIM kitaabul Imaarah [no.4496-4499])
7) Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “Each child is born on the Fitrah but his parents make him a Jew or a Christian. It is like the way an animal gives birth to a normal offspring. Have you noticed any born mutilated before you mutilate them?” (BUKHAARI, MUSLIM)
8) Anas bin Maalik reported that Nabi (saw) said “Be noble to your children and make their manners good.” (IBN MAAJAH, A’BD UR RAZZAAQ)
9) Abdullah ibn U’mar reported that Nabi (saw) said “The best inheritance a father can leave for his child is good manners [adab hasan].” (TABARAANI ‘Mujam al Awsaat’) and in a similar mursal narration from Ayoob bin Moosa “The most excellent gift…” (TIRMIDHI)
10) Jaabir bin Samurah reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “The teaching of good manners [adab] by a father to his son is better for him than giving a sa’a of sadaqah.” (TIRMIDHI)
11) Anas reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “Whoever raises two girls until they attain maturity, he and I will come on Yawmil Qiyaamah like this.” And he (saw) joined his two fingers.’ (MUSLIM)
12) A’wf bin Maalik reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “I and the woman of two black cheeks shall be like these (two fingers) on Yawmil Qiyaamah, the woman who has been bereft of her husband, possessing beauty and respectability and who confines herself to her orphan children until they attain maturity or die.” (ABU DAWOOD)
13) Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “When a man dies all his actions are cut off from him except three - sadaqah jaariyah, knowledge from which benefit is derived and the du’a of a righteous son” (MUSLIM) and in another version A’bdullah bin Qataadah reported on his father’s authority that Rasool Allah (saw) said “The best of what a man leaves behind (after his death) are three things, a righteous son who invokes Allah’s blessings upon him, a sadaqah which continues after him and its reward benefits him, and the knowledge that is acted upon after him.” (IBN MAAJAH ‘Saheeh’ according to AL HAYTHAMI in ‘Majmu az Zawaai’d’ IBN HIBBAN in his ‘saheeh’) and in another version Abu Hurayrah reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “Verily the actions and good [a’mal and hasanaat] which reach a believer after his death are the knowledge that he had learned and publicized it [nasharahu] and a righteous son whom he left, a mus-haf he left as inheritance or a masjid he built or a building he built for the wayfarers or a canal he excavated or a sadaqah he gave out of his wealth during his good health during his lifetime, these would reach him after his death.” (IBN MAAJAH, Imaam Ibn al Mundhir said isnad ‘hasan’ HAYTHAMI said its ‘ghareeb’ also recorded by IBN KHUZAYMAH in his ‘saheeh’)
14) Aishah reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said “Taking care of your homes is your responsibility. This act of yours is jihad.” (AHMAD) and
It is also reported that Nabi (saw) said “The efforts of a woman to serve and maintain the home would be equal to act of the mujaahideen if Allah Wills.” (AL HINDI ‘Kanz al U’mmaal’) and Similarly it is reported that Nabi (saw) said “A woman right from the period of pregnancy until child-birth and from the period of childbirth until the period of lactation is like the mujaahid who is continuously vigilant during his duty. And if she dies during this period she gets the status of a shaheedah.” (AL HINDI ‘Kanz al U’mmaal’) This hadeeth is supported by another hadeeth which compares the woman’s reward in rearing the children, Anas narrated that Salamah the nurse of Ibraheem said to Nabi (saw) ‘O Messenger of Allah you brought tidings to me but not to women’ Rasool Allah (saw) said “Did your women friends put you up to asking me this question?” She said ‘Yes they did’ He (saw) said “Does it not please any of you that if she is pregnant by her husband and he is satisfied with her, that she receives the reward of one who fasts and prays for the sake of Allah? And when the labour pains come, none in heaven or in earth knows what is concealed in her womb to soothe her. And when she delivers not a mouthful of milk flows from her and not an instance of child’s suck, but that she receives for every mouthful and every suck the reward of one good deed and if she is kept awake by the child at night she receives the reward of one who frees seventy slaves for the sake of Allah.” (TABARAANI)
Parents have two foundational duties with regards to the education of their children, the first of them is to protect them from misguidance [dalaalah], whether it be munkar [evil] and jaahileeyah [ignorance] or kufr. Children must never be taught anything from these poisons except in order to refute them and warn against them. It is kufr to teach someone kufr and present it as truth and it is kufr to allow someone else to do that, as calling to kufr is kufr or willingly assisting the call to kufr, Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “…he who called misguidance [dalaalah] he shall have to carry the sins of those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.” (MUSLIM) Pleasure with kufr is also kufr, Allah (swt) says “Then how (will it be) when the angels take their souls at death, smiting their faces and backs? That is because they followed that which angered Allah and hated that which pleased Him. So He made their deeds fruitless.” (Muhammad 47:27-28) For parents to leave their children to be taught falsehood and matters contradicting the laws of Islam is a matter of fisq and therefore haraam, it is a way to spread corruption [fasaad] in the land. Even if parents provided no alternative education for their children and sent them to no other education establishment, this would not excuse engaging in this prohibition.
The second foundation of educating children is that parents must provide for their children an Islamic education, either through themselves or by others, the obligation is not to simply give them any education regardless of its contents, but rather to give them an education based on the beliefs, laws and guidance of Islam. Many parents excuse and justify putting their children in kufr education systems because they say they can not give them an alternative education or that no-one else will provide them with it. This however, is an invalid excuse and is confusing two different types of rule. In usoolul fiqh [foundations of jurisprudence], Hukm Sharia’h [Divine Law] divides into ahkaam wada’eeyah [laws of circumstances] and ahkaam takleefiyyah [the classification of rules directed to the legally burdened]. In the latter category, ‘haraam’ [forbidden] is generally defined as ‘The decisive command of the Legislator (Allah) to abstain from an action’ its performer is punishable whereas ‘fard’ is defined as ‘The decisive command of the Legislator (Allah) to perform an action’, its performer is rewarded and neglect is punishable (for such definitions refer to any book of usoolul fiqh such as ‘Jama’ al Jawaami’ by Imaam Ibn as Subki [d.771 h.]). Therefore, these two types of rule are separate, one concerns actions, the other, omission of actions. Doing ‘haraam’ means you have made effort to do something that is not allowed, and that if you had done nothing at all you would be not be sinful. Performing ‘Faraai’d’ [obligations] requires making effort in actions in order not to be sinful, if you neglected to act you would be blameworthy. Therefore, in terms of the two levels of disobedience [ma’seeyah], without referring to the different weight of individual categories of action, ‘haraam’ is more serious than neglecting an obligation. This is because performing haraam means making effort to disobey Allah whereas performing fard requires effort to obey Allah. Secondly, obligations [faraai’d] are subject to ability and vary according to that, whereas haraam must be abstained from completely. This is reflected in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah who reported that Nabi (saw) said “If I command you to do something then do as much as you are able and if I forbid you from something then abstain.” (BUKHAARI, MUSLIM) and Allah (swt) says “If you avoid the major [kabaai’r] (issues) of what We have forbidden [tunhawna] for you, We will cancel out your evil and will admit you with a noble entry.” (an Nisaa’ 4:31) So the first priority for the Muslim after correct belief is to avoid the haraam and secondly to make effort in performing his obligations. Once this is understood, those who say ‘I will not take my children out of kufr education until you provide me with Islamic education’ are manifestly wrong. They are actually doubly sinful as they do haraam (even to the level of kufr) and they neglect their obligation. They are like one who says, ‘If you don’t give me a wife to marry then I will commit zinaa’ or ‘If you don’t give me an enemy to fight then I will fight Muslims.’ So these parents must realise that if they want to avoid kufr and haraam they must first take their children out of an education system that indoctrinates their children with kufr, munkar, jaahileeyah and dalaalah and calls them to fahshaa. After stopping this poison they can work on the cure and seek assistance for that, injecting a patient with the poison while offering him medicine at the same time is not the way for health.
Summary of Reasons Why State Education of Children is Haraam and can lead to Kufr
1) It contradicts the obligation of baraa' from the kuffaar. The entrusting of children to kuffaar to teach them kufr and dalaalah shows love for the kuffaar and their ways. This type of closeness is prohibited and can amount to kufr depending on its details. The education system will teach children to accept authority of disbelievers and the disbelieving system and encourage them to have love for it. Allah (swt) says “O you who believe! Take not for awliyaa’ disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?” (an Nisa 4:144) and ““The believers should not take the disbelievers as friends rather than the believers. Whoever does that has nothing to do with Allah…” (aali I’mraan 3:28)
2) It contradicts the obligation to forbid or turn from falsehood. Allah (swt) says “…and shun the word that is false.” (al Hajj 22:30)
3) Parents have the obligation to save their children from kufr and dalaalah. The schools are full of kufr and dalaalah, not only in their foundations, objectives and details of education but also in the company that is kept there. The companions and environment will affect the deen of a person. Parents will be accounted for all harmful influences they allow to reach their children when they can be avoided. Allah (swt) says “O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is men and stones” (at Tahreem 66:6)
4) It is prohibited to follow the disbelievers and take them as an authority except in matters of madaneeyah [material progress] where their knowledge is verifiable and not in contradiction to wahi [revelation]. The Muslim must only entrust himself to the trustworthy, as for the disbelievers they can not be taken as a reference point, an authority and guide in matters of thaqafah [culture], hadaarah [civilization] and mabda’ [ideology]. Children in school learn to take their teachers as a reference point and an authority above them in the subjects they teach. Apart from it not being allowed to take them as an authority, it will also lead to misguidance. Allah (swt) says “…and follow not the path of those who know not.” (al Baqarah 2:169) “And obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites…” (al Ahzaab 33:48) and “…and do not follow the desires of those who have no knowledge.” (al Jaatheeyah 45:18) “So obey not the mukadhibeen.” (al Qalam 68:8) and “And obey not every hallaafin maheen” (al Qalam 68:10) and “…and do not obey from them a sinner nor an ingrate.” (al Insaan 76:24) and “…follow not the whims of those who deny Our revelations, those who believe not in the Hereafter and deem (others) equal with their Lord.”(al Ana’m 6:150) and "Follow [tabi'oo] what has been sent down unto you from your Lord and follow not any awliyaa' besides Him. Little do you remember" (al A'raaf 7:3) and “…Do right and do not follow the way of the mufsideen.” (al A’raaf 7:142) and “…so both go straight and do not follow the path of those who know not.” (Yoonus 10:89) and “…and obey not him in whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance and who follows his own desires and whose affair has been lost” (al Kahf 18:28)
5) It contradicts the obligation to reject the taaghoot. The one who rejects the taaghoot does not make it a reference point for his children, allowing them to be taught its beliefs, laws and culture as a matter of choice, permissibility, progress, supremacy and truth. The Qura’n makes clear that the one taking the taaghoot as friends, supporters and allies will be misled by them, so what is the case of the one who puts children in their education for six hours a day for over a decade? Allah (swt) says, “…Whoever rejects Taaghoot and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is Sami’un A’leem. Allah is the Wali of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their awliyaa’ are Taaghoot, they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever.” (al Baqarah 2:256-257) The ayah makes clear the misguidance that occurs under the influence of the taaghoot.
Dimensions and Examples of the Disbelievers Assault on the Muslim Mind
The education system authorised and directed by the taaghoot governments reflects their own beliefs and viewpoint about life. Every subject is taught from a non-Islamic viewpoint, a kufr viewpoint, where revelation does not set the aim and objectives of education but people do based upon their own or other peoples philosophies, desires, religion and ideologies. The education system exists to strengthen the kufr civilisation by means of creating qualifications as a means of authorisation and recognition and to provide knowledge and skills to organise and run their society which itself is moulded on their kufr viewpoint. It is also a vehicle to propagate their views on a mass scale, a tool of mind control, confusing people about the nature of power and authority in kufr society and misleading people about any opposing systems and beliefs that contradict the foundation and methods of the kufr status quo, in the past or present.
This reality underlying the whole structure of kufr education should be enough for a believer to realise the dangers it holds for all people entering it and sufficient to realise the prohibition of putting one’s children under its influence. Any detailed study of the education system under kufr authority with regards to its foundations, objectives and details will make clear its contradiction with the Islamic beliefs, laws and guidance. However, below we mention some general points and examples in some subject categories:-
1) Religion
- i) Relativism and Equality of Religions. Secular States teach that all religions are valid and equal and deny concepts of proof and truth.
ii) Occultism, Witchcraft and Magic (Now recognised as legitimate religions and through the influence of media and occultic history, many citizens, especially youth have adopted some form of occult religion).
Iii) Secularism. It is taught that religion should be separated from governmental and collective affairs.
Iv) Christianity. Christian beliefs and concepts are taught which contradict the genuine revelations to all prophets.
v) Other False Religions (Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism etc). Rituals, festivals and beliefs are taught and even performed.
vi) Islam taught falsely according to Christian, Atheist, Jewish, Agnostic, Orientalist, Masonic viewpoint
- 2) Citizenship
- The newly launched subject of ‘citizenship’ was initiated to counteract the growth of Islam as a way of life in Europe in general and the UK in particular. The subject has the aim of integration and nullifying the political and social significance of Islam while promoting allegiance to the secular nation state even in opposition to one’s own religion and principles. This form of mind control is not reserved for children alone, but now comes into effect for anyone emigrating to the UK. This is similar to the oath of allegiance given to the American flag and constitution by anyone emigrating to the USA and similar to the daily allegiance sworn to the flag by their schoolchildren. The army, police and judges being key components of the system and enforcement of law have always traditionally taken an oath giving full allegiance to the State. The introduction of this through immigration and education is an attempt to extend that unity upon allegiance to the State to all citizens.
i) Nationalism. Children are taught to support the home country even against Muslims.
ii) Allegiance to Taaghoot. Children are taught to give allegiance to government and laws of the country.
iii) Democracy. Children are taught that the majority should decide and man-made law.
iv) Freedom of Speech. Freedom of speech which allows mocking of religion and insulting of prophets and other evils is taught as good.
v) Personal Social Freedom. Democratic societies teach citizens that people should be free to do as they please socially.
- 3) Personal Social Education
- i) Fornication. Fornication is taught as permissible and is encouraged indirectly.
ii) Homosexuality. Governmental ministers are now openly homosexual and schools prohibit criticizing homosexuality.
iii) Gender Equality. Kufr societies teach that men and women are equal and should have equal opportunities and they mix their roles.
4) Drama
i)Representation of False concepts. Drama is an art form where people are encouraged to express many non-Islamic views.
ii)Freemixing of sexes. Acting and plays are often portrayed in an environment of non-Islamic social relationships.
5) Physical Education/Games
i) Nudity. The problem is with undressing and viewing of others nudity.
ii) Freemixing of Sexes. Much freemixing of sexes occurs in Physical Education and Games.
iii) Corrupted Role Models. Sportsmen and women with bad behaviour and false beliefs are promoted to be followed.
6) Biology
i) Evolution. Evolution is taught as a fact in direct contradiction to Islamic, Jewish and Christian beliefs.
ii) Cloning. Cloning and other forms of abuse of science are taught as progress.
7) Physics
i) Indestructibility of Energy. Many false concepts are taught in relation to matter, energy and the universe which contradict tawheed.
8) Economics
i) Prohibited Transactions. The sixty or so prohibited transactions are ignored by kufr capitalist economics.
ii) Ribaa. The whole economic system revolves around usury and is taught as legitimate practise.
iii) Legitimacy of Neo-Colonial Relations. International trade which exploits Muslim wealth and labour is taught as legitimate.
9) Art and Crafts
i) Painting and Sculpture.
ii) Relativism. Art includes teaching of concepts which contradict absolute truth.
iii) Propagation of Kufr Belief and Culture through Art. Art is a medium to transmit the kufr way of life.
10) Music
i) Prohibited Instruments
ii) Prohibited Singing
iii) Objectives and Contents of Music. The contents of music are medium to propagate kufr beliefs and culture.
11) Geography
I)Legitimacy of Borders in Muslim lands
ii) Legitimizing Nationalism
iii) Legitimizing Evolution
iv) Recognition of Secular Nation States
v) Legitimising Neo-Colonial relations (Exploitation of Muslim Labour and Resources)
vi) Legitimizing Population Control (Birth Control, Abortion, Contraception)
12) English Literature
i) Corrupt Social Concepts.
ii) Erroneous Morality. Literary works usually teach a morality false in basis and false in its conclusions.
13) History
i) Historical Method and Philosophy. History in the kufr education system is not taught with the same objective as Islamic history and its method and scale of judgement is different. In Islam, history has an aim of learning the lessons from the past and witnessing the destruction of those nations and civilisations who transgressed the limits of Allah (swt). Kaafir historians often idolise civilisations which may have contributed material progress to humanity but also contributed to the corruption and oppression of mankind. Many kaafir historians have a totally academic outlook and thus the history is not linked to the contemporary corruption and oppression but is just studied for the sake of study. Much of history is shaped by the dominant secular ideas of the day, and thus the historian places an anti-Islamic commentary on all past events.
ii) History Favouring Democracy. Democracies obviously favour historical changes towards democracy.
iii) History Favouring Independence and Division. Division of the Muslim world is taught under guise of ‘independence.’
- iv) False Kufr view of Historical Change (underplays conspiracy and revelation)
v) The Caliphate (The caliphate is taught as a matter of the past, a matter of dictatorship and oppression rather than highlighting the security and progress experienced by those under its banner in its long history, it is separated from religious obligation),
vi) Colonialism. Is taught as thing of the past, and its past horrors and causes are underplayed or omitted completely.
vii) The Reformation. Reformation is encouraged in Muslim world based Christian reformations away from religious authority.
viii) The European Revolutions. European revolutions towards secular nation states, driven by freemasonry is regarded as progress.
ix) ‘Independence and Liberation’
x) Past Civilisations. The reasons for their rise and fall, the relationship of modern governments with them.
xi) ‘The Holocaust’ (This event is established as a fact and used by the State of Israel to justify its existence and its continuing oppression of the Palestinian Muslims),
xii) Archaeology & Past Civilisations (POLYTHEISM is the original state of man’s religion according to them)
xiii) The Crusades. The Crusades are distorted and mis-taught from many perspectives. E.g. The illegitimacy of war from a religious viewpoint, the benefit and harm arising from the Crusades, the lessons learned, the lack of comparison to current wars against the Muslims etc.
Studying under Disbelievers
According to Islam, in the light of the belief of tawheed and the guidance of the Qura’n and Sunnah it is clear that different types of knowledge are available through many means. It is proven in many ways that taking beneficial knowledge from disbelievers is permissible e.g.:-
- Allah (swt) put everything in the world for our utilization including that which comes from the disbelievers. However, issues must not be adopted which contradict the Islamic beliefs and laws. Part of the miracle of the Qura’n and the proofs of the existence of a Supreme Creator is that Allah told us He has subjected all things to our use. This includes all things, including that manufactured, studied or discovered by kuffaar, Allah (swt) says, "And He has subjected to you, as from Him, all that is in the heavens and on earth: Behold, in that are Signs indeed for those who reflect."(al Jaatheeyah 45:13) and "Do you not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made his bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Yet there are among men those who dispute about Allah, without knowledge and without guidance, and without a Book to enlighten them!" (Luqmaan 31:20) and "See you not that Allah has made subject to you (men) all that is on the earth, and the ships that sail through the sea by His Command? He withholds the sky from failing on the earth except by His leave: for Allah is Most Kind and Most Merciful to man." (al Hajj 22:65)
- Allah (swt) put knowledge and signs everywhere. This includes among the kuffaar and their works. Allah (swt) says "Verily in the heavens and the earth, are signs for those who believe." (al Jaatheeyah 45:3) and "We shall show them Our portents on the horizons and within themselves until it will be manifest unto them that it is the Truth. Doth not thy Lord suffice, since He is Witness over all things?" (Fussilat 41:53)
- It is necessary to learn the languages and writing of foreign disbeliever nations as well as Muslims who are non-Arab in order to fulfill various sharia’h obligations such as Da’wah to all nations, dealing with the ahl adh-Dhimmah, fulfilling foreign policy through covenants and peace treaties, pursuing economic foreign trade links, gaining necessary worldy knowledge possessed by the kuffaar for running the affairs of the people and meeting their needs etc. Allah (swt) says “Say: "O men! I am sent unto you all, as the Messenger of Allah, to Whom belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god but He: it is He That giveth both life and death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, who believeth in Allah and His words: follow him that (so) ye may be guided." (al A’raaf 7:158) and “And We have not sent you except to all [kaaffatan] of mankind as a basheeran and nadheeran but most men know not.” (Sabaa 34:28) It is reported that Zayd ibn Thaabit was commanded to learn the writing of the Jews, he said “I would then write for the Prophet (saw) and read for him whatever they wrote when they wrote to him.” (BUKHAARI ‘al Jaami’ as Saheeh’ and in Tareekh al Kabeer’ with a full isnaad.) In another report Zayd ibn Thaabit said “Rasool Allah (saw) commanded me to learn Syriac.” (AHMAD, HAAKIM)
- Knowledge of outward and material matters. Allah [swt] did not deny the knowledge of kuffaar in the absolute sense, rather Allah [swt] affirmed they have knowledge of the outward. Indeed if they had no knowledge of anything then they would never be able to achieve any material progress and not govern themselves or others. This can include matters of science, administration etc. Allah (swt) says, “They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless.” (ar Room 30:7) Also if the kuffar have knowledge and abilities then these can be utilised for Islamic objectives, especially if they become Muslims. Abu Hurayrah reports Nabi (saw) “Men are like mines of Gold and Silver. The best among you in the days of jaahileeyah are the best among you in Islam as long as they have fiqh of the deen” (MUSLIM [mishkaat vol.1 p.346] similar in AHMAD from Jaabir bin A'bdullah with the wording "The people are of different substances, the best of them in jaahileeyah..." and similar in IBN HIBBAAN from Abu Hurayrah with the words "People are of different substances in good and in evil, the best of them in the jaahileeyah..")
- Truth is truth no matter who says it and knowledge is knowledge. Allah (swt) is Al A’leem, Al Hakeem, Al Hadi, He (swt) gives knowledge, guidance and wisdom directly or through any means He Wills, thus wherever a person finds it he can use it, as long as it is true and beneficial. Allah (swt) says “He grants Hikmah to whom he pleases and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember but men of understanding [oolool albaab].” (al Baqarah 2:269) and Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “The word of hikmah is the straying animal of the haakim and wherever he finds it he has a right to it.” (IBN MAAJAH, TIRMIDHI)
- The People of the Book, the Jews and Christians can be referred to for some matters as they were originally sent revelation and followed universal Islamic principles. They are not to be taken as a reference point or authority on a subject unless it is exclusive to them and their views need to be verified. However, they can be quoted as giving examples of things that are confirmed in Islam, these affairs are then not confirmed as true nor denied as false but rather, used as an example and attributed to their source. Allah (swt) says “And We sent not before you any but men, whom We inspired. So ask the People of the Dhikr if you do not know.” (an Nahl 16:43) and “And We have not sent from those before you but men whom We inspired. So ask the People of the Dhikr if you do not know." (al Anbiyaa’ 21:7) and A’bdullah ibn A’mru ibn al A’ss reported that Nabi (saw) said, ”...and narrate from the Bani Israel and there is no harm" (BUKHAARI) Indeed this is one reason for tafseer supported by Israeliyaat. Abu Hurayrah reported that Rasool Allah (saw) said "You may relate from the children of Israel whatever you want..." (AHMAD, SHAFI'I 'musnad' & 'Risaala' [p.251])
It is allowed to seek knowledge through most available means, but there are conditions to that and elements to be considered. The one studying anything under the kufr education system should be:-
i) Muslim, knowing his beliefs (If a person is not strong in his beliefs, then the priority is to gain that rather than other issues. A person weak in belief will be influenced more easily and end up in a situation of doubt or total disbelief).
ii) Aware of shades of kufr and shirk (If a person is unaware of different forms of kufr and shirk then they will have difficulty defending themselves against their influence).
iii) Aware of objectives of the Kufr education system in the light of revelation. (A person who considers that his educator’s or those whom influence and direct his education intentions are pure, sincere and good will put a trust in them and not distinguish between the beneficial and the harmful and will be unsuspecting of any deception).
iv) Politically aware of current objectives of Kuffaar
v) Aware of Islamic perspective concerning the subject he is studying
vi) Not going to compromise in either forbidding munkar or making hijrah if the Truth is mocked
vii) Possess an Islamic objective or several objectives in what he is studying
viii) Have a mind capable of assessing reality and distinguishing between neutral objectives (which are confirmed in reality and common to all people) and those which emanate from a cultural-ideological viewpoint. i.e. distinguish between hadaarah and madaneeyah.
Most people today do not fulfil these above conditions and as a result even adults from the ummah are misled by the kufr education system even to the point of riddah [apostasy]. It is certainly haraam to leave children in the kufr education system to be left alone to study a whole curriculum which contradicts Islamic belief, laws and guidance from its roots to its branches. The fruits of this are all around us to see, Islam is absent as a system, as a belief, as a way of life among the ummah. The Muslim world is dominated by kufr principles of education, kaafir educational establishments are spread throughout the Muslim world and thus the thinking and behaviour of the masses is in accordance with that. Until the reality, danger and prohibition of putting children into kufr education is understood and avoided then the ummah will continue to stray and suffer, Allah (swt) says “…and if you turn away, He will exchange you for some other people and they will not be like you.” (Muhammad 47:38)
